Aloe vera is a member of the lily family. Its name comes from the Arabic word ‘alloeh’, which means bitter. It is well-known for producing a thin, clear gel-like substance that provides soothing relief for common skin irritations. Another substance, known as aloe vera latex, can also be obtained from the inner leaf skin. With a high water content of nearly 96%, the aloe vera plant has been hailed as a medicinal plant with many a beneficial property.

The chemical composition of Aloe
Aloe contains 75 potentially active substances: vitamins, enzymes, sugars, minerals, saponins, lignin, salicylic acid and amino acids.
Tissue of Aloe contains vitamin A (beta carotene), C and E which both act as antioxidants. It also contains vitamin B12. folic acid and choline.
Aloe contains enzymes alkaline phosphatase, amylase, aliazo, bradiktinazo, karboksipeptinazo, katalazo, celulazo, lipases and peroxidases.The most obvious effect against inflammation had bradiktinase, other enzymes affect the decommissioning or the use of fats and carbohydrates.

Aloin, better known as barbaloin, has anthraquinone glycoside, isolated from at least 68 species of aloes. Substance – has a bitter alkaloid taste and yellow, which is found in the aloe in quantities of 0.1 to 6.6% solids. Substance is located in the vascular part of aloe leaves.

Aloin occurs in two isomeric forms, such as aloin A (barbaloin) and aloin B (izobarbaloin). It shall apply as a laxative, which causes intestinal contractions and stimulates intestinal peristalsis. The substance also prevents water absorption through the intestinal wall, thereby reducing the concentration of intestinal contents. In larger quantities cause electrolyte imbalances, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. It may lead to contraction of the urinary tract, is not recommended for pregnant women.
